FRIENDS OF GREEN RIDGE STATE FOREST
About Us
Green Ridge State Forest in eastern Allegany Co. is a place of national & statewide significance. Just consider the cultural & natural landmarks connected to it:

-The National Road - the road that built the nation.

-The Mason-Dixon Line - the most famous boundary line in the nation.

-The Potomac River - the nation`s river.

-The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park.

-The Green Ridge State Forest  National Recreational Trail.
What is The Friends Of Green Ridge State Forest? Formed under the auspices of the Allegany County Forestry Board(an organization concerned with the health of Allegany County`s forest and land base), The Friends Of Green Ridge State Forest is a non-profit citizens` group dedicated to the protection and conservation of Green Ridge State Forest`s natural and cultural resources. This friends group, it is hoped, will strive to promote the responsible enjoyment of this unique natural treasure.
There are many reasons why we should advocate for the conservation and preservation of Green Ridge State Forest:

-Over 100,000 visitors come to GRSF every year!

-Maryland loses almost 14,000 acres a year to development, more than 8,000 acres being agricultural fields, wildlife habitat and forests. As a result hundreds of species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians are being impacted.

-We come to enjoy the beauty of it all. To be able to camp, or hike the many trails, go fishing, hunting, or ride the ORV trails, or just to have a peaceful family picnic as you gaze at the magnificent scenic overlooks! There are many reasons to save our forest, too many to list! But I can`t think of one reason why we shouldn't!

-We need Green Ridge State Forest as much as it needs us!
